Battlefields to Footyfields hits the Sunshine State
On Father’s Day 2021, the NRL’s Battlefields to Footyfields program, supported by Invictus Australia, ran a family activation at Noosa Pirates Rugby League Club. The game development officers organised activities for the kids and thanks to some local businesses, were fortunate enough to have prizes donated for some lucky dads.
It was a great way for local veterans to meet and interact within their local community, as with footy final fever in the air, the atmosphere was electric. The kids were able to play with other children, while the adults got to meet each other and members of the local Rugby League community.
Creating these engagements is just as important to as recruiting members for associations or clubs as it allows veterans to get a feel and meet the people they will engage with on a regular basis for if they decide to join the program. It also provides the children an opportunity to learn new skills make friends while encouraging mum and dad to sign them up to play footy.
