MEET THE TEAM | Next up, we thought we could introduce half of the NSW competitors heading to Canada for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler. Meet:

💛 Belinda, who witnessed the power of sport and how team camaraderie can change people's lives for the better at the Invictus Games Sydney 2018, inspiring her to keep playing sport post injury.
🖤 Callan, who says his greatest sporting achievement was captaining his high-school sporting house to victory at both the swimming and athletics competitions.
💛 Dave, who is competing for his two daughters, to show them that no matter what happens in your life you can always achieve what you want.
🖤 Christopher, who has given baseball, basketball, rugby league, soccer, ice hockey and martial arts a go throughout different stages of his life.
💛 Olivia, who has competed in sports at high levels her entire life, including water polo, ocean swimming, surfing and running at the national level.
🖤 Alexander, affectionately known as 'Foxy' by his loved ones, he grew up on the ice playing hockey and has dabbled in Brazilian jiu jitsu.

Meet Clarrie, from South East Queensland. 👋 An

Meet Clarrie, from South East Queensland. 👋

An army veteran who transitioned to civilian life in 2019, service related injuries and motivation meant he has always found it hard to commit to an exercise regime. That was until he discovered weekly yoga and indoor rowing in his local community. What made these programs, facilitated by Invictus Australia, different to his previous attempts at regular exercise, was the fact that he could also utilise these classes as a chance to form connections with other veterans and families in his local community.

"The sport and exercise programs through Invictus makes it easy for me to organise and attend regularly. It is also a great, non-judgmental environment with past and still serving ADF members all sharing some common ground."

Since he first connected with Veteran Engagement Manager Justine, sport has become a driving force for Clarrie. He now regularly attends his local @parkrunau, and has even competed in a 10km running event. For Clarrie, sport has become a great way to maintain his physical, mental and social wellbeing.

In QLD, female veterans and family members have been keeping active regularly through our Women in Fitness Program, run in partnership with the AIPT. For the participants, this is more than just a way to stay physically active, it provides a community where they can form connections while improving their overall wellbeing.

This program is possible thanks to the Queensland Government, who provided funding to Invictus Australia to activate a fitness program for women and girls in the defence community under the Active Women and Girls Program to enable Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreation activities.
