Inaugural Invictus Australia Family Sports Day announced to support the Defence Community in South Australia
Invictus Australia is proud to announce the first South Australian Defence Community Sports Day on Sunday 30th June, 2024. A welcoming family day that creates the unique opportunity for veterans and their families to explore a variety of sports and connect with ex-service organisations (ESOs) whist also having the opportunity to connect with like-minded veterans and their families.
The action-packed event will be held at the Veteran Wellbeing Centre, Repat Health Precinct at Daw Park, South Australia and run from 10am – 2pm. It is a fantastic opportunity for Veterans (current and former serving), their families, and the sport community to come together and celebrate the spirit of camaraderie, resilience and sportsmanship, while considering local sport pathways to build sustainable wellbeing.
Attendees will be have the chance to try a range of exciting activities, including interactive sporting sessions with pickleball and archery, adaptive sport including sitting volleyball and e-sports, and plenty of ‘Come and Try’ opportunities. There will also be face painting, fairy floss, fun games for all ages and a range of information booths by organisations supporting veterans.
Vanessa Broughill, Invictus Australia’s Regional Manager for Veteran Engagement in South Australia and Invictus Games alumna, is excited to bring this sporting event to the local veteran community.
“Invictus Australia’s Defence Community Sport Days have grown exponentially since the first event launched in Canberra three years ago,” said Vanessa.
“I’m excited to bring this event to South Australia for our state’s veteran community to experience. Our Defence Community Sport Days are an inclusive environment designed to bring the veteran community together through the power of sport. We encourage everyone to come on down, as the Invictus spirit spreads well beyond the Invictus Games and inspires our work in local communities, year-round.”

About Invictus Australia:Invictus Australia is the NFP responsible for organising the Invictus Games Sydney 2018. We carry on the legacy of the Games every day in local communities, as all veterans and their families can benefit from involvement with sporting communities, particularly ‘at risk’ veterans. As well as promoting the physical, social and emotional benefits of sport, Invictus Australia shines a light on the unique needs of younger veterans and the challenges they face as they transition from military to civilian life.
