Making a splash – Invictus Australia partners with Water Polo Australia

Water Polo Australia (WPA) and Invictus Australia are pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that will create a new partnership between the two iconic organisations.

Working collaboratively, WPA and Invictus Australia will look to provide opportunities, pathways, encouragement and support for veterans and their families, of all abilities, to participate in water polo.

As a charitable organisation, Invictus Australia exists to support veterans and their families to improve their health and wellbeing through sport and recreation, via grassroots sporting activities in communities all across Australia.

Water Polo Australia recently launched its Inclusion, Diversity and Equity strategy, designed to make the sport more accessible and partnerships with organisations such as Invictus Australia align to the strategy.

WPA General Manager Sport Development Tim Welsford said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Invictus Australia to create opportunities for veterans and their families to be involved with water polo.

Together with Invictus Australia, we will facilitate programs, initiatives and events to ensure that veterans and their families have the support that is required for them to play water polo.”

“This partnership is extremely important to us at Water Polo Australia, and we look forward to working closely with Invictus Australia to bring it to life,” he said.

Toni Cumpston, Director Community Participation and Impact at Invictus Australia, agrees, stating, “Invictus Australia are excited to be teaming up with Water Polo Australia to provide opportunities for the Australian Defence Community to connect with water polo clubs and communities across Australia.

Water Polo provides many avenues for veterans and their families to get involved in a welcoming family friendly community, whether it be through participating as part of a team in a local competition, coaching, officiating or volunteering as part of a committee or club member, the opportunities for forming strong connections are endless. ”
