Putting rugby first
Veteran Sport Australia (VSA) has partnered with Rugby 1st, Australia’s newest sporting business community, to open up new opportunities for veterans and their families to participate in the sport of rugby.
The partnership will pave the way for veterans to get involved with selected rugby clubs by providing opportunities to connect with different aspects of the game. This could include playing, coaching, officiating or administration.
Programs and initiatives such as this of Rugby 1st, are vital to demonstrating the value of sport and connecting veterans to opportunities and clubs which can be maintained throughout the transitioning process and beyond.
“We know the incredible power of sport to help all Australians including veterans with many aspects of life. People who have served come from a place of strong social connectiveness and physical activity. It’s fantastic to be working with Rugby 1st to make the process for all veterans to get involved in the sport of Rugby as easy as possible” says Michael Hartung, General Manager of VSA.
“This is a great day for veterans who are Rugby lovers,” says Rod Stewart, Rugby 1st liaison for RSL NSW, “it allows them to follow their sport in the way they want and however they are capable of participating. Importantly, it also provides a social outlet that is vital for veterans newly transitioned from service.”
Rugby 1st is a non-profit organisation facilitating connections between Australian corporates, brands, executives and influencers.
VSA has been established to support all veterans and their families to improve their health and general well being through sport and recreation.
