Team Australia celebrates at the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 - part of the Adaptive Sports Program

Expressions of Interest for the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 open for former serving veterans

Invictus Australia is pleased to announce that Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are now open for the 2027 Adaptive Sports Program (ASP). This intake will prepare participants for the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, set to take place from the 10 – 17 July 2027.

The Adaptive Sports Program is delivered in partnership between the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and Invictus Australia. The program is for current and former serving personnel from the regular or reserve ADF who have become wounded, injured or ill (WII) during or as a direct consequence of their service.

Invictus Australia is responsible for the former serving contingent of the team and at this time, is calling for expressions of interest for former serving veterans. The ADF will confirm the process for current serving and reservist applications in the near future, which will be communicated internally through defence channels (DEFGRAM/ SIGNAL). For more information about this process, including who is eligible, click here.

About the Adaptive Sport Program (ASP)

The Adaptive Sports Program is all about utilising the power of sport to support recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration of participants and through their resilience and stories, raise awareness of the issues faced by veterans and families.

Selection is not based on sporting performance or athletic ability, but on how participation in the Adaptive Sport Program could positively impact an individual’s recovery journey. If you want to understand the eligibility and selection requirements, you can learn more here.

The EOI, Application and selection process

Eligible former serving veterans should express their interest in the program by filling out the below form. Once an EOI is submitted, an email will be sent out with the further instructions, which includes completing the formal application, submitting a mandatory medical form (to be completed by a nominated health care practitioner) and filling out an optional sport reference form.

Following the closing date for EOIs for the ASP, a process of accepting individuals into the program will commence, which will down select from the applicant pool to a small squad that will keep training towards achieving selection in Team Australia.

In previous years, we’ve received over 200 applications per EOI round. Unfortunately, with such high program demand, there are many who apply who will not be selected to continue beyond the application stage.  We encourage you to see how sport can play a role in proactively supporting your health and wellbeing through Invictus Australia’s Community Sporting opportunities. To find out more about how you can get back into sport or continue your sporting journey, you can connect with the Facebook group in your local area here and discover opportunities to get involved in sport.
