Strategic Focus On Sport To Connect The Defence Community

INVICTUS AUSTRALIA STRATEGY

In 2024, we celebrated six years of Invictus Australia since our inception following the Invictus Games held in Sydney, in 2018. Reflecting on this milestone, we saw it as a pivotal moment to reset and refocus on our goals for the future. This led to the development of the Invictus Australia 2025–2031 Strategy, charting a clear path forward to better support veterans and their families through the power of sport.

This strategy addresses key themes from the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide, including the challenges of transition to civilian life, the importance of mental health support, and the need for stronger community connections. By focusing on strategic partnerships, positive sporting experiences and placing collaboration at the heart of all we do, Invictus Australia aims to support current and former serving veterans, their families and those transitioning to civilian life to thrive. Our approach emphasises health, happiness, and lifelong wellbeing through sport, supported by an expanded research base to target areas of greatest impact.

This new strategy builds on our vision to foster lifelong connection and well-being for veterans and their families through sport. The Royal Commission underscores the challenges of transitioning from military to civilian life, where identity and purpose are often at risk.

Invictus Australia is dedicated to using sport as a transformative tool for recovery and reintegration, as well as proactively, to prevent instances of poor social, mental and physical health. This plan focuses on bringing veterans and families together while fostering meaningful connections with civilian communities, addressing the critical need for belonging, identity, and purpose both during and after service.
