Colin McCallum and Amy Beal named Team Australia Co-Captains for Invictus Germany Sports Festival
Invictus Australia is proud to announce Colin McCallum and Amy Beal as Team Australia’s Co-Captains for the Invictus Germany Sports Festival 2026.
Representing a team of 20 Australian veterans competing in Düsseldorf, Colin and Amy will help lead Team Australia as they take on the international adaptive sporting event, using sport to support recovery, rehabilitation and connection.
For Amy Beal, a Navy veteran from Rockingham, Western Australia, the opportunity to step into the role is one she is approaching with pride and purpose.
“Being named co-captain alongside Colin is a massive honour,” Amy said.
To be able to lead all of our teammates and be there to guide and support them is a massive honour and something I am taking to heart.”
Having enlisted in the Navy as a Boatswains Mate in 2009, Amy served on ships including HMAS Anzac and HMAS Sirius. Since leaving service, sport has become a way to connect with others who understand the challenges of life during and after service.
“Socially and mentally, sport enables me to connect with like-minded people and breaks down barriers,” Amy said.
For Colin McCallum, a Royal Australian Navy veteran and Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 competitor, being named co-captain is both emotional and meaningful.
It was emotional being given the honour to be the co-captain. It is so overwhelming but something I am willing to take on to support the rest of my teammates.
After medically separating from the Navy following almost 30 years of service, Colin has spoken openly about how sport helped him rebuild confidence, reconnect with others and find a renewed sense of purpose.
Having represented Team Australia at the Invictus Games in Canada, Colin will bring that experience with him to Germany, particularly in helping teammates navigate the intensity and emotion of an international adaptive sporting event.
“I will let my teammates know that, while there will be overwhelming periods, they should make sure to make the most of it,” Colin said. “Be yourself and it is all about what you can do, not comparing yourself to others.”
It is a message echoed by Amy, whose advice to her teammates is simple.
“Grab every opportunity that you can and enjoy the experience,” Amy said.
Together, Colin and Amy will lead a team that represents the courage, resilience and camaraderie of Australia’s veteran community.
The Invictus Germany Sports Festival 2026 continues the legacy of the Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023, bringing together wounded, injured and ill current and former serving personnel from around the world through adaptive sport, community and shared experience.
Team Australia will compete across indoor rowing, sitting volleyball, table tennis and indoor cycling, with the support of their teammates, coaches and the wider Australian community behind them.
