Spartan Spirit, Invictus Heart: Finding Strength in Strides with Team Veteran
Invictus Australia continue to expand their Community Partnerships, joining forces with Spartan Australia, the leader in obstacle course racing. Spartan embodies what it means to be unconquered, the indefatigable human spirit to push beyond boundaries and challenge your mind to push further than you ever thought possible. Both organisations are committed to helping people to live without limits, not just through physical challenges, but by fostering a sense of belonging and purpose, helping them to find their community.
Spartan’s mission to help people develop the strength to take on life’s challenges resonates with the defence community, where perseverance and grit are part of everyday life.
“At Spartan, we believe true strength is found when you push beyond what you thought possible, and we recognise that the defence community already knows the meaning of grit, resilience and the will to overcome. By partnering with Invictus Australia, we can continue to support those who serve, helping them find strength, connection and purpose both in and beyond the uniform” shared Max Delacy, General Manager at Spartan Australia.

Spartan: A community Build On Support And Strength
Spartan events are known for their intensity, but what truly defines them is the community. Although the races are individual, the experience is collective. Participants often help each other through obstacles, cheer each other on, and celebrate each other’s victories. It’s not uncommon to see strangers lending a hand to help through a tough section, showcasing a true sense of camaraderie.
This spirit of camaraderie is exactly what Invictus Australia seeks to cultivate through sport. We know that the defence community can face unique challenges, and having an opportunity through Spartan events, where they can come together, support one another, and build lasting connections is invaluable.
Toni Cumpston, Director Community Participation and Impact at Invictus Australia shares. “We’re excited to see this partnership with Spartan Australia come to life, our community has been calling for it for some time. Many of our veterans and families are already involved in Spartan events, drawn to the sense of challenge, connection and camaraderie the events offer and we look forward to bringing them together under the Team Veteran banner.”
Launching at Wollongong Spartan Stadion – November 29
The partnership will officially launch at the Spartan Stadion event in Wollongong on November 29, marking the return of this iconic race format to Australia after five years. Invictus Australia will be inviting the defence community to join Team Veteran, a community team that brings veterans and their families together in a shared experience of challenge, camaraderie, and achievement.
Participants will receive a Team Veteran shirt and be welcomed into a supportive environment where connection and encouragement are just as important as crossing the finish line. Veterans who are a part of the Wounded, Injured or Ill community will receive complimentary tickets with an additional free ticket offered for a support person (some processing fees apply). All other defence community members will have access to 25% off Spartan Australia events. To access these defence community offers, you’ll need to be following the local community page where the event is happening, to find out more details.
Team Veteran will become a mainstay for anyone racing at Spartan events in Australia who wants to be part of an inclusive and welcoming community of current and former defence personnel and their families.
Inclusive Opportunities to Participate and Volunteer
Spartan Australia welcomes everyone, competitors, spectators, and volunteers alike. The Spartan Crew (volunteer) program offers meaningful ways to get involved. Individuals can earn free races, perks and/or race credits in return for their time and effort given. Team Veteran Spartan Crew members will receive Crew merchandise, creating a sense of pride and identity within the community.
Invictus Australia will be encouraging defence families to participate in all aspects of Spartan Australia events, whether that’s racing, volunteering as part of the Spartan Crew, or simply showing up to support others. Every role contributes to the energy and impact of the day.
