What partnership makes possible: Tracey Glenny from Ventia on connection, community and impact
As a defence spouse, Tracey Glenny has experienced many of the realities that come with service – relocations, deployments, exercise periods, changing family routines and the impact those changes can have on careers.
Based in Darwin, it is a perspective she also brings to her role as People & Capability Manager supporting Ventia’s Defence contracts nationally, where she works closely with veterans, reservists and defence families.
Through Ventia’s Exclusive Partnership with Invictus Australia, Tracey has also become personally involved in the organisations mission to strengthen the lives of veterans and families through sport – volunteering at parkrun activities during Veterans’ Health Week, taking part in the ZERO600 fundraiser and working alongside Invictus Australia to support veteran engagement, wellbeing and employment.
Those experiences have given her another perspective on the role sport and community can play alongside workplace support.
My involvement with Invictus Australia has reinforced the importance of connection, purpose, and community in supporting veterans and their families.”
Seeing the value of connection firsthand
For Tracey, that has meant seeing firsthand the impact sport can have on physical health, mental wellbeing, confidence and social connection – and bringing those experiences back into her work supporting Ventia’s Defence community.
Within Ventia, she has been closely involved in the organisation’s Veteran Employment Strategy, helping create pathways for veterans and defence family members to join and thrive in the workforce. She has also led work with Ventia’s veteran community and collaborated with external organisations to improve employment, wellbeing and support.
Bringing that experience back into the workplace
That focus on connection is also reflected more broadly across Ventia.
Since partnering with Invictus Australia in 2024, Ventia has seen an increase of approximately 50% in employees self-identifying as members of the defence community. More employees are also taking part in internal networks, sharing their experiences and helping shape the support available to veterans, reservists and defence families.
Ventia’s dedicated Veteran Working Group has contributed to advocacy around areas including Defence-related leave, relocation support and flexible working arrangements, helping create a more inclusive and supportive workplace for the defence community.
The partnership also creates opportunities beyond the workplace.
Ventia employees and defence community members have taken part in local sporting and wellbeing activities, including parkrun and community events in, helping people stay active, meet others with shared experiences and build stronger connections through sport.

Employees have also had opportunities to volunteer with Invictus Australia, seeing firsthand how sport can create connection and support for veterans and families, while gaining the personal and professional benefits that come from contributing to their community.
Seeing firsthand the positive impact sport can have on physical health, mental wellbeing, confidence and social connection has been incredibly rewarding,”
A partnership that works both ways
Through its partnership with Invictus Australia, Ventia is able to engage its people, strengthen support for its defence community and create more opportunities for employees and families to connect.
The partnership also brings Ventia’s people and the organisation as a whole into a wider community working towards better outcomes for veterans and families, creating opportunities to build relationships, share ideas and contribute to a common purpose. Through Invictus Australia, Ventia has connected with other corporate partners, as well as defence, government and veteran-sector stakeholders.
At the same time, Ventia’s people, resources and networks help Invictus Australia extend the impact of our work. Employees have also had opportunities to volunteer with Invictus Australia, seeing firsthand how sport can create connection and support for veterans and families, while gaining the personal and professional benefits that come from contributing to their community.
Since the partnership began, Ventia employees have supported ZERO600, raised funds for Invictus Australia, hosted awareness activities including ANZAC Day Lunch and Learn sessions, and contributed their time, skills and networks to help extend the reach of our work.

Ventia has also played an important role in growing Invictus Australia’s presence in the Northern Territory, with people like Tracey helping build awareness and stronger connections within local Defence and veteran communities.
For Invictus Australia, that support means greater reach and capability, helping us create more opportunities for veterans and families to get active, connect with others and find ongoing pathways into sport and community.
For Tracey, being part of the partnership has also meant seeing what that can look like on the ground.
I’ve witnessed the powerful role that sport, community engagement and peer support can play in helping people thrive both personally and professionally.”
Together, the partnership creates stronger connections across workplaces, community and the broader Defence network, giving Ventia’s people meaningful ways to engage with a community they care about, while helping Invictus Australia create more opportunities for veterans and families to get active, connect and thrive.
