Surf Life Saving

Find your community through volunteering, competing or just staying fit!

Surf life saving encompasses many different aspects of wellbeing and is a multifaceted activity. It recognises the transferable skills of veterans for volunteer roles at surf clubs nationwide, provides a feeling of community, bringing people together and is also an excellent way to improve physical fitness.

Transcending the physical benefits, strong relationships can be formed amongst members of the surf life saving community through collaboration and camaraderie.

our partnerships

In our partnership with Surf Life Saving Australia, we are dedicated to promoting and expanding the world of surf life saving, making the community accessible to everyone.

Furthermore, veterans will have the chance to join Team Invictus Australia as an interclub team at the 2024 Lifesaving World Championships on the Gold Coast. To create additional social connection points for veterans transitioning from service, we’re also establishing Club Open Days, introducing the Australian Defence Community to the welcoming world of Surf Life Saving.

We also work with Royal Life Saving NSW to provide fully subsidised training for veterans and their partners in critically important roles such as Swim Teachers, Pool Lifeguards and Aquatic Technical Operators.

Through collaborative efforts with various sporting organisations, we organise events to introduce these sports, focusing on veterans and families. Together, we aim to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all.

To keep up to date with upcoming events and connect with your area’s Defence community join your local Facebook group.

If you are interested in a sport that isn’t listed on our website, get in touch. With our contacts in the sporting industry, we have avenues to explore to help you find your tribe.

community is at the heart

“The partnership between Surf Life Saving Australia and Invictus Australia reflects a shared commitment to promote mental and physical wellbeing for veterans and families. We know that sport can contribute to health and wellbeing, particularly when recovering from wounds, injury, or illness. This new alliance provides more local opportunities and pathways for veterans in Surf Lifesaving. It means bringing more veterans together in their community, building mental resilience, and creating friendships.”

Assistant Minister for Veteran’s Affairs,
